A beautiful meditation. These days I think about the foolish beauty of the struggle to make a better world. Human nature being what it is, I don't think we'll ever achieve the full vision of a future that is "pretty, accepting, responsive, free, absorbing technology to benefit all humankind"; but, human nature being what it is, neither are we condemned to a future that is "a dark, repressive, frightened, cowl-wearing world of authoritarian repression". If your granddaughter has inherited some of the hard won wisdom of her grandmother, she'll be one of the ones helping to make things better. I have faith in her.
Abby, my favorite line is "The concepts we have been using for the last 80 years to organize our perceptions – left/right, good states/rogue states, democracy/authoritarianism – no longer help us." I am in denial and want you here for all my time. This world is brighter with you and I miss seeing you more oftern my dear friend. This writing tells me that you do see the future and it must be the people that choose its trajectory.
This has been my view of the universe for some time now. I could never get comfortable with organized religion of the Sky God concept. This makes so much sense to me. Thanks, Abby, for finding the right words.

Thank you, Abby, for this wonderfully provocative reflection on human nature and the "who" that we are and the 'who' that we can be.

You express beautifully the uncertainty of our time. I continue to read and reflect.
