On the one hand it is refreshing to hear something intelligent. and to remember that there was a staff of 60 considering budgets who you worked with. that a president and vice president listened. On the other, it is devastating to recognize the grotesque nature of the corruption, inefficiency, and total disregard for life in the reduced and ineffective regime that pretends to govern. thank you.
I don't get money or budget or even numbers. But I trust, Abby, that you have a clear handle on the process in a way few others have. I wonder what they will do with all that obscenity of money. In light of who is not getting money it is henious. Gross. Disgusting. God I hate this president and this administration. And it's another 2.5 years before they are gone. I don't suppose you would write an oped for the times. Or a juicy article for the Atlantic. Someone has to point fingers and given how I introduced myself in this note it isn't going to be me.
This is a beautiful piece of history telling. We can only hope that we will someday have a government that actually governs and has the guts to make the hard decisions. Thanks for sharing your story.
Thank you. The article is like a breath of fresh air. At last, a clear and concise discussion of the always contentious issue of defense spending. It is appalling to read about the degree of corruption and inefficiency that is going on now. It adds a subtle depth to the WW I saying: Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition.
Excellent perspective on the how the military budget could (and was) be handled intelligently. We are now ruled with total insanity and waste. Thanks, Abby for your thoughtful and informative piece.

"Obscene" is the word. Thanks for the perspective, Abby.

One day, (sigh)...

And keep passing it...
